President Jokowi Inaugurates Kretek 2 Bridge to Support Java’s Southern Coastal Highway

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated Kretek 2 Bridge, on Friday (06/02) morning, in Bantul regency, Yogyakarta province. The bridge will support Java’s Southern Coastal Highway (JJLS) and it is targeted to be completed this year.

“Yes, the southern coastal highway, from Banten province to Banyuwangi regency, East Java, soon will be completed this year,” President Jokowi.

The construction of Kretek 2 Bridge is a part of the Government’s efforts to build a highway connection, from the west to the east of Java island through southern coastal highway. According to the President, the infrastructure construction of the southern coastal highway in some areas in Java island have been completed 100 percent.

“The remaining 14 km in Yogyakarta province and 24 km in East Java province are completed and connecting all, and this is the condition of the highway,” the President said.

President expressed his hope that the JJLS can improve the mobility of logistics and people, and the competitiveness of southern Java island’s products.

“We hope that the mobility of logistics, people, and products can be smooth because we already have southern coastal highway. We hope that southern Java island’s products can enter the market with a better competitiveness, that is the goal,” he pointed out.

Kretek Bridge is stretching over Opak river with total length of 2.7 kilometers. The infrastructure is built with investment amounting to Rp364 billion. (FID/UN)(AW/LW)
