Leaders of ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Wednesday (09/06) at the Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta, agreed on cooperation in developing an electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in the region.

The agreement was formalized by leaders of ASEAN, People’s Republic of China, and the Republic of Korea through the adoption of the document known as “ASEAN Plus Three Leaders Statement on Developing Electric Vehicle Ecosystem”.

According to Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi, the document was the realization of the ASEAN leaders’ agreement on the development of EV ecosystem during the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.

“This practical step is the translation or implementation aligns with the agreement among ASEAN leaders, which gained support from the plus three countries,” the Minister said.

On that occasion, the Minister revealed that the 26th APT Summit also recorded three other documents, including the Progress Report on the Implementation of the APT Cooperation Work Plan 2023-2027, Network of East Asian Thinktank Memorandum, and Policy Note on Regional Economic Surveillance and Cooperation.

“These are policy notes on monitoring the development of cooperation and economic growth in East Asia prepared by the ASEAN Plus Three Macroeconomic Research Office or AMRO,” she said.

In addition, leaders of APT also firmly expressed support for ASEAN’s centrality and the implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).

The leaders also underlined the importance of peacefully managing disparities to ensure the maintenance of a conducive situation.

The Minister also pointed out that Japan and China also addressed the issue of Fukushima. Apart from that, several countries also expressed concern about ballistic missile tests launched by North Korea.

“As the coordinator of the Plus Three countries, the Republic of Korea has presented plans for the resumption of the Plus Three dialogue,” the Minister remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (RIF/MUR)
