President Jokowi Kicks off Japan Working Visit

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo kicked off working visit to Japan on Saturday (12/16).

President Jokowi and his limited entourage took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta at around 06.00 Western Indonesian Time and arrived in Haneda Internasional Airport, Tokyo at 15.00 local time.

Upon arrival, President Jokowi was welcomed by Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Komura Masahiro, Chief of Protocol Shimada Takehiro, Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi, Ambassador Yasushi Masaki, and Defense Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo Rear Admiral Azwan Yusuf.

In Japan, the President is slated to attend three main agendas.

First, he will conduct a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida which will be followed by a dinner with the Prime Minister and his spouse Yuko Kishida at Geihinkan, the State Guest House, Akasaka Palace, Tokyo.

The meeting will discuss cooperation between Indonesia and Japan in various sectors, such as in economy, infrastructure, energy transition, critical minerals, and maritime affairs.

Second, President Jokowi and PM Kishida will lead the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan friendship and cooperation adopting a theme ‘Golden Friendship, Golden Opportunity’.

The Summit will focus on strengthening of the future ASEAN-Japan partnership through green economy, acceleration of digital transformation, and implementation of ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific.

Third, President Jokowi will attend the first Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Summit that was launched on the sidelines of G20 Summit in Bali last year. In the Summit to be attended by Japan, Australia, and ASEAN member countries, Indonesia will uphold the spirit of inclusive collaboration to realize emission-free region.
