President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inspected the Regional Public Hospital (RSUD) dr. H.L.M. Baharuddin, M.Kes. at Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province, on Monday (13/05). During his inspection, he focused on the importance of enhancing health service in remote areas, particularly service for predominant disease. Therefore, the President emphasized the importance of access to modern medical devices such as CT scan, cath lab, and mammogram, which had been provided entirely at public health services.

“I have recognized that, almost in all regions, stroke and heart disease are predominant. It will be a problem if the patients are not well treated because the locations of regencies or cities are far from provincial hospitals. Therefore, now the Ministry of Health provides more medical devices such as CT scan, cath lab, mammogram, or pregnancy ultrasound (USG) to lower-level health services at regencies and public health services.

The President also conveyed his appreciation for availability of specialist doctors at regency health services who could operate advanced equipment. “I have seen that facilities are good here. The building and layout are good and clean. I hope all health services have the same condition,” said the President.

At the same occasion, some people also expressed their impression and hope for health services. A 71-year- old La Ode Bariu expressed his gratitude for the President’s visit to Muna Regency. He also emphasized the importance of adequate generator facilities to support hospital operations when there was power outage.

“Two Presidents visited Muna, President Gus Dur (Abdurrahman Wahid) and President Jokowi,” Bariu explained.

Nuryani, other patient, showed her happiness to meet the President directly and to feel the benefit of BPJS Health program. “Alhamdulillah, praise to God, President Jokowi has come here. Thank you, Pak Jokowi, for your visit. I am thrilled,” she said. (AIT) (GA/LW)
