President Jokowi, Elon Musk Discuss Investment Development Potentials in Indonesia

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo had a meeting with CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, Elon Musk, at the 10th World Water Forum held in Bali International Convention Center (BICC), Badung regency, Bali province, on Monday, May 20, 2024, discussing, among others, digital transformation acceleration in Indonesia and investment development potentials in Indonesia.

At the meeting, President Jokowi showed his appreciation to Musk on his participation as the speaker of the forum, and they also discussed the importance of water management system. The President also invited Musk to further develop his investment in Indonesia, including companies such as SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, and Boring.

“Mr. Musk, Indonesia is currently experiencing national digital transformation acceleration and opening investment potentials in sectors of infrastructure, government technology, digital economy, and digital people. Therefore, we appreciate and encourage investment developments of companies of SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, and Boring in Indonesia,“ President Jokowi said.

Related to Starlink cooperation that has been run well, President Jokowi expressed hope that Starlink can synergize with internet providers in Indonesia to provide affordable internet access, to prioritize consumers’ protection, to give cheaper price for public services use, including community health center (puskesmas) and Indonesian schools in rural areas.

In his response, Elon Musk said that it was an honor for him to participate in the forum, and that he was pleased to be in Bali. “We hope that we can provide Starlink connectivity to support education and health facilities in Indonesia,” Musk said.

Musk’s visit has showed that global investors have high interest in Indonesia’s digital economy and potential cooperation in the future that will support digital infrastructure throughout Indonesia. (Bureau of Press, Media, and Information of Presidential Secretariat/DNS) (AW/LW)
