Marine Resources Will be Exhausted, Susi Prepare Fishing Moratorium

Minister of Marine and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti when appearing in the Public Workshop “Sea for the Future of the Nation”, in Jakarta, Wednesday (1/10)

Minister of Marine and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti expressed that marine resources in Indonesia has to be exhausted. Thus, the things we need to do now is to conduct the fish farming.

“There must be sustainability for the results of marine able to reserved for the next generation,” said Minister of Marine and Fisheries, Susi Pudjiastuti, at the Workshop Public “Marine for the Future of the Nation” Strategic Policy Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, at the Ballroom Mina Bahari III, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Jakarta, Wednesday (30/9).

Related to the above, Susi conveyed that her side is preparing Minister Regulation (Permen) to undertake a moratorium in terms of fishing. This is also done by other countries in the anticipate of the same problems related to Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing.

Indonesian Navy Assistance

On that occasion, Susi Pudjiastuti also said that the Ministry of Maritime and Fisheries also asked for help from Indonesian Navy to work together in addressing the issue of fishing. “By coordinating and moratorium, the supply of fisheries growth to be increased,” she said.

According to Susie, when she visited Sabang, some time ago, the mayor of Sabang said that now the fish catching of fishermen reached 15-20 tons per day, and is very influential to the economy in the community.

“Build, work, industrialized it could be done to improve the Indonesian maritime development,” said Minister of Marine and Fisheries.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs organized the event and Fisheries, according to the plan it will be implemented regularly, and invited various concerned parties.  (EN/AS/ES)/Sy.
