Presiden Joko Widodo Conveys Indonesias Commitment on Sustainable Forest Management
President Joko Widodo accompanied by several ministers delivered a press statement at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/12) afternoon
After visiting Paris, France, since last Sunday (29/11), to attend UNFCCC COP 21, President Joko Widodo and First Lady Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo arrived in Indonesia, landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/12) afternoon.
To the journalists who were waiting for him at the airport, the President affirmed that Indonesia is committed to carrying out sustainable forest management and to accelerating the use of renewable energy. This commitment had been conveyed by the President at UNFCCC COP 21s Leaders Event held at Parc des Expositions du Bourget, Paris, France, on Sunday (30/11) local time.
Indonesias commitment on forest preservation in sustainable development was conveyed together with other 17 countries, such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Congo, Ethiopia, France, Gabon, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Liberia, Mexico, Norway, Peru, England, and the United States, Presidential Communication Team, Ari Dwipayana, said, in his press release on Wednesday (2/11) afternoon.
According to Dwipayana, this concern was expressed on that occasion because there are 1 billion people whose life directly related to the forest and there are 6 billion people whose life undirectly related to the forest.
On the meeting on new renewable energy, President Joko Widodo emphazised Indonesias commitment to accelerate the use of renewable energy and Indonesia has had a clear policy direction on the use of renewable energy.
The target is to achieve 23 percent of new renewable energy use by 2025. In addition, rural electrification could likely to achieve 100 percent by 2019, the President said as quoted by Ari Dwipayana.
According to Dwipayana, the President delivered a statement at the COP 21s Leaders Event in order to give support for the success of COP 21, to affirm the commitment of climate change issue, to invite other countries to contribute more, to urge the leadership of developed countries on emission reduction and to encourage international cooperation in terms of implementation and adaptive matters.
On the sidelines of the COP 21, President Joko Widodo had bilateral meetings with 13 Heads of State/Government, such as: Netherlands, Norway, Serbia, Peru, Vietnam, Iran, the Philippines, Colombia, Papua New Guinea, Japan, Madagascar, and Mexico.
In the bilateral meetings, the President discussed more concrete efforts in strengthening bilateral cooperation with these friendly countries. The COP 21 meeting was attended by 150 world leaders, Dwipayana said in his press release.
A number of high-ranking officials welcomed the arrival of the President at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, such as Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Luhut B. Pandjaitan, Presidential Communication Team Ari Dwipayana, Deputy Governor of Jakarta Djarot Syaiful Hidayat, Chief of Indonesian National Police Gen.
