President Jokowi to Meet President Putin in Sochi, Russia
President Jokowi is welcomed by Indonesian Ambassador to the Russia, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, and Mayor of Sochi (18/5)
President Joko Jokowi Widodo on Wednesday (18/5), at 02:35 p.m. local time or 06:35 p.m. Western Indonesian Time, arrived in Sochi, Russia.
Before arriving at Adler Sochi Airport, the Presidential Aircraft carrying President Jokowi and his entourage was on transit at Tolmachevo International Airport.
Upon his arrival, President Jokowi was welcomed by Indonesian Ambassador to the Russian Federation Wahid Supriyadi, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Mikhail Yurievich Galuzin, and Mayor of Sochi Pahamov Anatoliy Nikolaevich.
In the working visit to Russia, the President will hold a bilateral meeting with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and sign several bilateral agreements between Indonesia and Russia, Ari Dwipayana from Presidential Communication Team said in a press release on Wednesday (18/5).
Besides meeting with President Putin, President Jokowi is also slated to attend the 2016 ASEAN-Russia Summit, which adopts the theme Moving Towards a Strategic Partnership for Mutual Benefit.
At the Summit, ASEAN countries and Russia will discuss several measures to strengthen partnership cooperation, reduce development gap, develop connectivity, and bring concrete results to improve peoples welfare, Ari said.
The Summit is also held to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the ASEAN-Russia partnership cooperation.
After joining the ASEAN Regional Forum, Russia has played a very active role. ASEAN and Russia had the Plan of Action on the cooperation until the end of 2015, Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi said in a press statement on Tuesday (17/5), in Seoul, South Korea.
On the sidelines of the two main agenda during the working visit to Russia, President Jokowi is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguy?n Xuân Phúc. Prime Minister Nguy?n has requested to meet President Jokowi, Retno said.
During the working visit to Russia, President Jokowi will be accompanied by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Trade Thomas Lembong, Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki, and Presidential Special Adviser for Communication Johan Budi.
