Indonesia had secured an additional quota of 20,000 hajj pilgrims from the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has stated.

“Prime Minister Prince MBS (Mohammed bin Salman) has decided that the additional quota was 20,000 (hajj pilgrims),” the President said at the commemoration of the National Santri Day in Surabaya, East Java, Sunday (10/22).

The President went on to say that the additional quota was a follow up of his meeting with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al-Saud on Thursday (10/19), adding that [before the implementation of the additional quota] Indonesian Hajj pilgrims have to wait up to 47 years to get the opportunity to perform the hajj.

On that occasion, President Jokowi further said that the additional hajj quota is expected to be implemented next year. (BPMI SETPRES/AIT) (RI/MUR)
