President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo reminded the regents and heads of office not to issue permit for weeks, months, let alone years.

“What the existing online system is for if it still takes more than a month to issue the permit. Investors seem reluctant to invest in your region if this continues to happen,” the President said in his remarks at the opening of the 11th National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of the Regency Administrations Association (Apkasi) at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City, Tangerang, Banten, Friday (6/7).

The President went on to explain that the Central Government has created an Online Single Submission (OSS) to be launched this coming week.

“Later, the (permit) process is traceable, from the Central Government, province to regencies/cities. It can be found what the obstacles are and why it is hampered,” the President said.

The President asserted that now we live in a fast-paced society. Today, according to the President, it is no longer a large country defeating a small country or a powerful country defeating a weak country. However, a fast country defeats a slow country.

“Speed is the key. Speed ??of action and service. We must have such a mindset. Otherwise, do not talk about competitiveness,” the President said.

On the occasion, the President also reminded all that Indonesia still has a big task to be completed. According to the President, the poverty rate, although it can be lowered from year to year, is still high.

“Indonesia’s poverty rate was at 11.13 in 2015, 10.7 in 2016, and last year at 10.12. It is our hope this year the figure falls to 1 digit,” the President said.

The President added that the unemployment rate declined year-on-year, which was at 7.56 in 2015 while in February 2018 it was at 6.87. “It’s still our big task,” the President said.

The President asserted that investment and export are two key factors to achieve postive economic growth.

Investment, the President further explained, will come if all parties serve investors well in the form of licensing speed, let alone exports.

Therefore, if there is an export-oriented investment, the President insists that the permit be granted immediately, as this will improve the current balance of trade deficit, which is more imports than exports.

“This is what we need to improve together. The Central and Regional Governments must work together,” the President concluded.

Accompanying the President included Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian. (DND/ES) (MUR/YM/Naster).
