President Jokowi, ASEAN Leaders Attend Dinner Hosted by US President
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (05/12) attended a dinner with the leaders of ASEAN countries hosted by President of the United States Joe Biden at the White House, Washington D.C.
From the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, President Jokowi left for the White House and arrived at around 17:20 local time and was personally welcomed by President Biden. The two presidents shook hands and took a photo together, then followed by the signing of the guest book by President Jokowi.
On the occasion, President Jokowi—along with the leaders of other ASEAN countries—proceeded to a photo session then moved to the Blue Room to attend the dinner.
In the dinner, President Jokowi had the honor to reply to President Biden’s toast.
In his toast speech, President Jokowi said that the Summit is the right moment to strengthen the ASEAN-US partnership in the future. “This partnership is essential amid the world’s uncertain situation today. For this reason, I invite all of us to raise a glass for ASEAN-US partnership that continues to contribute to strengthening the values of multilateralism, peace and stability of the area, and as the main driver for the region’s welfare,” he added.
The dinner was finished at around 20:00 local time, and President Jokowi left the White House to return to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Also accompanying the President on the occasion was Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno L.P. Marsudi. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat/UN) (GWH/MMB)
