President Jokowi Attends 13th Abah Guru Sekumpul’s Haul

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo attended the 13th Haul – a special event to commemorate the passing of someone – of Abah Guru Sekumpul’s Death Commemoration in Ar Raudhah Mosque Sekumpul, Martapura, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan, Sunday (25/3).

Muhammad Zaini bin Abdul Ghani al-Banjari is the full name of Abah Guru Sekumpul. He was a renowned scholar born in Tunggul Irang, Martapura, on February 11, 1942. He passed away on August 10 2005 at the age of 63 years.

Upon arriving at the location of event, President Jokowi was greeted by the big family of Abah Guru Sekumpul. The President and his entourage then performed Maghrib (dusk) prayer together with hundreds of thousands of other attendees.

The President and his entourage also attending tahlilan (congregational prayer for the dead) and Isha (night) prayers in congregation. The event lasted until 9 pm local time. Despite heavy rain, it did not discourage the enthusiasm of the participants.

After attending Abah Guru Sekumpul’s Death Commemoration, President Jokowi headed straight to the lodge for a rest before continuing his working visit in South Kalimantan province the next day.

Joining the President during the event were Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, Commander of Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, and Chief of the Indonesian National Police General Tito Karnavian. (FID/JAY/ES) (STU/EP/Naster)
