President Jokowi Calls for Completion of Capital Relocation’s Legal Umbrella
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has called on his cabinet ministers to immediately finalize the legal umbrella required for the relocation of Indonesian capital.
“I have heard from Minister of National Development Planning/Head of National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) that the Law has been completed and it will probably be submitted to the House of Representatives the week after the recess,” the President said in his directives at a limited meeting on the Follow-up Discussion on the Planned Capital Relocation at the President’s Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (26/2).
It is expected that the new system will enable the Government to work faster and adapt to existing changes, the President added.
“I also want to remind you all that in devising the system, governance authority must also be taken into account given the fact that we are not just managing the new capital as usual,” the President said.
President Jokowi in August last year announced that two regencies in East Kalimantan are to be the site of Indonesia’s new capital city. The new capital will be built in part of North Penajam Paser regency and part of Kutai Kertanegara regency in East Kalimantan province. (MAY/EN)
