President Jokowi, Chairman Zhao Leji Appreciate Increasing Cooperation between Indonesia and China

On the sidelines of the 3rd High Level Conference of the Belt and Road Forum (BRF) for International Cooperation, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo held a bilateral meeting with Chairman of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Zhao Leji on Wednesday (10/18), at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing.

In his remarks, Chairman Zhao Leji expressed his appreciation for the increasing cooperation between Indonesia and China. He said that the strategic leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Jokowi has succeeded in continuing the belt and road initiative and the vision of the world’s maritime axis.

“[Our] mutually beneficial cooperation has resulted in a fairly balanced progress and has served as a role model for enhancing regional cooperation,” said Chairman Zhao Leji.

Meanwhile, President Jokowi also expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between the Indonesian and Chinese parliaments which has gone well. He also said that Indonesia and China have agreed to continue to increase cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

“And of course, this requires support from the parliaments,” said the President.

President Jokowi also expressed hope that Indonesia and China will always maintain the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries that has been running for 10 years. This is important to maintain good relations between the two countries.

“The comprehensive strategic partnership between Indonesia and China has gone well for 10 years and we must continue to maintain it to strengthen relations between the two countries,” said President Jokowi.

Also joining the President during the meeting were Minister of State-Owned Enterprises who also serves as Ad Interim Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Erick Thohir, Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan, and Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun.
