President Jokowi Chairs 1st MIKTA Leaders’ Gathering
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo chaired the 1st MIKTA (Mexico, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Turkiye, and Australia) Leaders’ Gathering on the margin of G20 Summit, at Bharat Mandapam, IECC, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India, on Saturday (09/09).
During the meeting, President Jokowi underlined that the current complicated global challenges must be faced with collaboration and cooperation among countries.
“We understand that the current global challenges are very complex and to answer these challenges, collaboration and cooperation are the answers,” the President said.
Thus, the President said that all countries must become part of the solution to global challenges, including MIKTA member countries.
“MIKTA must ensure the fulfillment of the rights of development of all countries, including the Global South, to undertake industrial downstreaming and become part of the global supply chain,” he said.
In addition, President Jokowi also highlighted that MIKTA countries must also continue to support inclusive economic recovery through digital transformation, similar to that of ASEAN.
“Currently, ASEAN has a Digital Economic Framework Agreement (DEFA) that can double the digital economy to USD2 trillion by 2030,” he said.
In addition, the Head of State also invited MIKTA member countries to encourage global governance reforms that can accommodate the voices and needs of developing countries. “And, it must be in accordance with its goals and times,” he stated.
President Jokowi also invited all leaders of MIKTA member countries to strengthen cooperation and synergy to bring about a better world.
