President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (10/11) delivered his remarks at the 15th Kompas100 CEO Forum held at the Garuda Palace, the new capital of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan province.

On that occasion, President Jokowi highlighted various achievements in infrastructure development over the past decade, while also stressing the importance of downstreaming and national consolidation.

The President emphasized that patience and time are of crucial importance in developing the IKN, which is bound to become Indonesia’s new economic hub.

“Developing a capital city like Nusantara requires time and involves a lengthy process. It may take not just one, two, or three years, but potentially ten, fifteen, or even twenty years to develop into a robust ecosystem and a thriving capital city for Indonesia,” he said.

The President also revealed that significant infrastructure developments have occurred over the past ten years, including the construction of 366,000 kilometers of village roads, 6,800 reservoirs, 14,700 village markets, 2,433 kilometers of new toll roads, 53 new dams with 1.2 million hectares of irrigation networks, as well as 26 new airports and 25 new ports.

The President also stressed the importance of downstreaming raw materials to ensure that added value and job opportunities stay within the country.

“We must fully commit to downstreaming. We cannot allow ourselves to export raw materials abroad again,” he firmly said.

In addition, the President pointed out Indonesia’s potential to emerge as a global economic power alongside China and India, while emphasizing the importance of creating a positive country’s image to attract global investment.

“What we are building over the past ten years is global trust, and we are all working towards fostering this trust to create a positive image of our country, Indonesia,” the President remarked. (KS/DNS) (RIF/MUR)
