President Jokowi Inaugurates Heads of BKPM, BNP2TKI, and KASN

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the new Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) in the State Palace Jakarta on Thursday afternoon (27/11). At the same location, President Jokowi also inaugurated the Head of the National Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) and the Head of the State Civil Apparatus Commission (KASN).

President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana arrived in Halim Perdanakusuma Airport after conducting blusukan (informal inspections) in three provinces in Sumatra, namely Lampung, Bengkulu, and Riau.

President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana, together with a number of the Working Cabinet’s ministers like Minister of the Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar and Minister of State Secretariat Pratikno, arrived in Jakarta on Thursday afternoon at about 01.00 PM west Indonesia time.

Previously, President Jokowi and his entourage had performed blusukan (informal inspections) using Super Puma Helicopter owned by Indonesian National Air Force (TNI AU) to observe several spots in Tebing Tinggi Timur, Riau.

In the inspections, President Jokowi observed some prototypes of local residents’ irrigation systems and sluices which play significant roles in managing peat soil.

President Jokowi also listened to the complaints from the local residents who mainly earn their living as sago farmers. They complained that their ecosystem is threatened by the activities of a number of companies which operate on their lands.

Therefore, the Government will assess and evaluate operating permits which the local residents claim to be potentially detrimental to the environment around which they live.

“There must be evaluation for the Industrial Forest Permits (HTI) held by companies which threaten the farmers’ lands,” Minister of the Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar said.

As regards illegal logging and wild-land fires, Siti Nurbaya stated on Wednesday (26/11) that the Government is preparing the deterrents to the perpetrators.

For that reason, Siti Nurbaya said, integrated coordination between relevant institutions and continual and sustainable supervision become crucial.

In addition to Riau, President Jokowi also visited Trimuljo Rice Center in Lampung and several traditional fishers’ villages in the coastal areas of Bengkulu.

When visiting the food producers, President gave assistance and directives, urging them to increase food production and help this country achieve food self-sufficiency that Jokowi-JK administration has promoted.

In Bengkulu, Jokowi also took the opportunity to observe the distribution of welfare cards to the disadvantaged people in Bengkulu Post Office and to visit Panorama Market which the Government will revitalize soon. (*/WID/ES)
