President Jokowi Inaugurates Indonesias First Modern Fish Market
Presiden Joko Jokowi Widodo on Wednesday (13/3) inaugurated Muara Baru Modern Fish Market, the first fish market with a modern concept in Indonesia.
The market is located in Kota in North Jakarta.
According to the President, the old market was smelly and muddy, but now it has been transformed into a modern building. He said that back in July 2016, he ordered Minister of Fishery and Maritime Affairs Susi Pudjiastuti to build a modern fish market as the Tokyos Tsukiji and today Indonesia has finally had one.
This new concept (of fish market) will set an example for future development of similar projects in all provinces, he said.
The President continued that the food court, the cool storage and sanitation system in the market use international standards. I will also order Ibu Susi to tell all market vendors to wear uniform to make them look more professional, President Jokowi added.
Ministry of Fishery and Maritime Affairs reported that the market building covers an area of 4.15 hectares and the construction costs Rp150.69 billion. The construction was built and designed by PT Pembangunan Perumahan and PT Fajar Nusa Consultant as the construction management.
This new market is expected to serve as a strategic national fishery center, considering the large number of fishery commodities sold in the existing Muara Baru market. (AGG/HIM/JAY/ES)
