As part of his working visit to South Sumatra province, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (05/30) visited the Lawang Agung traditional market in North Musi Rawas regency to monitor food prices and stocks.

“The price situation is good. I noted cayenne pepper is still available with the price of Rp55,000, green and red chili at Rp50,000. Meanwhile, garlic is available at Rp40,000 and Rp45,000 for onion,” President Jokowi told the journalists.

According to the President, the working visit also highlighted local infrastructure. “We just visited the regional general hospital; this (market visit) certainly also has such a purpose. Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing will carry out inspections here later,” he added.

In addition, Oka Evrita, one of the MSME hawkers who trades at the market, said that President Jokowi appreciated the packaging of her sweet potato chips.

“Mr. President told me that the packaging is already good,” Oka said.

The inspection shows the Government’s commitment to directly monitor economic and infrastructure conditions across the country, especially in traditional markets which serve as a barometer of the people’s economy. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (GWH/MUR)
