After attending a Limited Meeting that discussed efforts to handle the latest situation in Papua, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto explained that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered the security forces to strictly enforced the law against anyone who violates it in Papua

The President also strongly requested to protect the innocents to avoid victims during anarchist rallies, Wiranto added.

“President Jokowi would like to avoid any victims. He also underlined the security forces not to take repressive actions, and should be persuasive, compromise, educative instead,” the Minister said at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Friday (8/30).

The President, Wiranto continued, also gave order to protect important objects, public facilities and state facilities, as the rioters have shown anarchist actions by burning and damaging state and public facilities.

The actions of damaging public facilities are indeed betraying their own people because the facilities were built using public money and used by their own people.

“Thus, President Jokowi emphasized to protect both the people and public facilities,” Wiranto said, adding that the President also ordered to repair damaged facilities immediately. (FID/DNA/RAH/ES)
