Doorstop-di-IstanaPresident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has signed Presidential Decree on Amnesty for Baiq Nuril.

“I have signed the Presidential Decree and Nuril can take it anytime at my office,” President Jokowi said in Jakarta, Monday (29/7).

Nuril – a non-tenured female teacher at 7 public senior high school in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara – was sentenced to six months in prison and Rp500 million in fines for recording a lewd phone call between her and her alleged sexual harasser. Her petition for case review was rejected by the Supreme Court.

Previously, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno told reporters that the draft of the Presidential Decree on Amnesty to Baiq Nuril had been submitted to the President. “The President will immediately sign the Decree,” Pratikno said in Jakarta, Monday (29/7)

The signing, according to Pratikno, is a follow-up of the approval from the House of Representatives (DPR) regarding President Jokowi’s recommendation letter on Monday (15/7). He added that the amnesty was given considering the sense of justice and the extraordinary support from the DPR.

“This shows a sense of justice, not only at textual level, but also at substantive level,” said Pratikno. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat / ES)
