President Jokowi to Pay Last Respects to Former Muhammadiyah Leader
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (05/27) headed to Yogyakarta to pay his last respects to Prof. Dr. Ahmad Syafii Maarif, also known as Buya Syafii, former Chairperson of the Central Executive Board of Indonesia’s second largest Muslim organization Muhammadiyah.
The President left from Merdeka palace at around 12.30 Western Indonesian time after performing Friday prayer at Baiturrahim Mosque in the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta to the hangar of Garuda Maintenance Facility at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang city, Banten province where Indonesia-1 Presidential Aircraft was parked.
The President, accompanied with a limited entourage, took off at around 13.50 Western Indonesian time onboard Indonesia-1 Presidential Aircraft.
Shortly upon arrival in Yogyakarta, the President will go directly to Kauman Grand Mosque where the late ulema is laid in state. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (DH/LW)
