In a bid to support the Government’s efforts to alleviate extreme poverty in the country by 2024, Presidential Instruction Number 4 of 2022 on Acceleration of Extreme Poverty Alleviation was issued on June 8, 2022.

“The Presidential Instruction aims at accelerating (poverty alleviation) since we are committed to reduce extreme poverty rate to zero percent by 2024,” Vice President Ma’ruf Amin said in a press statement after the opening of the 2022 International Halal Congress, in Bangka Belitung Islands province.

The Government had set a target to alleviate extreme poverty in 35 regencies in 2021 and in 212 regencies/municipalities in 2022. Thus, the target to alleviate extreme poverty in all regencies will be continued in 2023-2024.

Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs and Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs are working on data updating to complete personal data and address of those falling into extreme poverty category.

In addition, the Government has also provided a number of social protection assistance and people’s empowerment assistance.

Based on the Presidential Instruction, the Vice President as Chairperson of the National Team for the Acceleration of Poverty Alleviation ordered all ministries to collaborate and create synergy to prevent overlapping programs among ministries. Therefore, each ministry has its own tasks which lead to a better financial management. (BPMI of Vice Presidential Secretariat/UN) (RAS/MMB)
