Press Statement of President of the Republic of Indonesia ahead of Ramadan AH 1446 at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, Friday, February 28, 2025
Assalamu’alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
May prosperity be upon all of us,
Shalom,
Salve,
Om swastiastu,
Namo Buddhaya.
Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to convey several things.
This Friday afternoon, I need to inform you of the steps we are taking in preparation for the month of Ramadan. Later this afternoon, the Ministry of Religious Affairs will hold the Isbat Session to determine the start of Ramadan 1446 Hijri for Muslims in Indonesia. Therefore, I would like to extend my best wishes for a blessed Ramadan to all Muslims observing it and to also ask you to forgive me both physically and spiritually. May Allah accept our pious deeds.
In the past few weeks, I have been closely monitoring the developments in the production and prices of foods. I have also instructed the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, the Minister of Trade, the Minister of Agriculture, and all relevant ministers to ensure the availability of basic commodities and prevent speculative price hikes. We must work hard to ensure that all citizens, especially those in the greatest need, can afford essential commodities. I am confident that we will achieve this, and we have already begun taking the necessary actions. Not only are we carrying out monitoring, but we are also taking executive steps and effective measures to guarantee that no speculators will take advantage of Ramadan to raise prices unreasonably.
Furthermore, the Minister of Transportation, the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, the Minister of Public Works, and all relevant ministers will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that all transportation facilities and public services operate smoothly, safely, and efficiently to facilitate mudik (the mass homecoming exodus). We are also preparing for a reduction in airfare prices over the next two weeks, as well as toll fee reductions on several main road sections during the Eid ul-Fitr and Nyepi holidays, which this year fall in close succession.
That concludes my statement.
Once again, to those fasting, I wish you a blessed Ramadan. Let us observe this holy month in peace, tranquility, and devotion.
Thank you.
Wassalamu’alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
Shalom,
Salve,
Om shanti, shanti, shanti om,
Namo Buddhaya,
Greetings of virtue.
Thank you.
End of session.
