The Makassar New Port will boost competitiveness, improve the quality of products from the eastern part of Indonesia, and improve logistic cost efficiency so products from the eastern part of Indonesia can compete with products from other regions in the country, as well as with products from other countries.

The investment budget for the Makassar New Port is Rp 5.4 trillion, which is very large. First, we will transfer 30 percent of the capacity of the former port to this port, and gradually we will complete the progress until it reaches 100 percent.

The most important thing is that the new port has been completed. The transfer process may take a week, a month, or two months. It will be implemented gradually to prevent disruption for goods processing to and from Sulawesi.

Once this new port, the Makassar New Port, is full, its capacity must be increased. Minister of State-Owned Enterprises has said that we will add the investment of Rp 5.4 trillion so the total investment will be Rp 10 trillion.

We have some plans. I will speak with the Governor and the Mayor. The location of the old port is strategic since it is located in the city center so it can bring value added to Makassar City.
