During President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to the Kremlin Palace in Moscow on Wednesday (12/10), President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin conveyed his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Indonesia. President Putin said that Russia-Indonesia relations continue to grow positively, particularly as the two countries celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations.

“Our relations have progressed very consistently this year as we celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations. The joint economic commission is also running smoothly. Our economic and trade relations have also developed over the first nine months of this year. Our trade value has increased by 17 percent,” President Putin said.

In addition to the economic and trade sectors, Russia also sees prospects for cooperation in the energy sector, including nuclear energy. He said that Russia is ready to provide assistance if Indonesia decides to involve Russia in the development of civil nuclear technology.

“There are many prospects in the energy sector, including nuclear energy. I know that Indonesia has plans in this regard, and if Indonesia decides to involve Russia, we are always ready to help,” he said.

The two leaders also discussed potential cooperation in the industrial and agricultural sectors. President Putin added that issues related to wheat were also discussed.

In the defense industry sector, President Putin referred to Indonesia as a traditional partner of Russia. He highlighted the solid military technical cooperation and the increasing number of Indonesian military personnel studying at Russian military institutions.

“Military higher education institutions also admit many Indonesian military experts. We are ready to increase this number,” he said.

President Putin also mentioned the strengthening of relations in the humanitarian and tourism sectors, supported by direct flight connectivity and visa-free policies for citizens of both countries.

Regarding Indonesia’s role in the international community, President Putin expressed his appreciation for Indonesia’s status as a full member of BRICS and mentioned discussions on the possibility of free trade cooperation between Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

At the beginning of the meeting, President Putin extended his condolences for the disasters that affected several regions in Indonesia. “I would like to express my condolences for the floods that have hit Indonesia and the Indonesian people,” he said.

For the record, this meeting was the second bilateral meeting between President Prabowo and President Putin this year, following their previous meeting in Saint Petersburg in June 2025. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/MMB)
