President Prabowo Visits Train Collision Victims in Bekasi Regional Hospital

President Prabowo Subianto, on Tuesday (04/28), visited the victims of the Bekasi train collision receiving medical care at the dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid Regional General Hospital in Bekasi city.
President Prabowo arrived at the location at 08.39 Western Indonesian Time and went to the surgical clinic and then Bougenville ward, where he interacted with the victims undergoing treatment.
The President also expressed deep condolences for the lives lost in the collision and gave directives that all injured victims receive optimal care until they recover. In addition, the Government will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the railway safety system to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“I came to the Bekasi hospital today. I believe we are all concerned and shocked by this collision. I’d like to offer my deep condolences on my own behalf and on behalf of the Government. We will investigate this incident as soon as possible. Overall, we observed that many of these railway crossings are unattended. We will address this problem immediately,” the President said to the press.
Apart from ensuring the victims will receive the best medical care, the President also provided moral supports to the victims and affected families.
The President also received a direct report from relevant officials on the progress of post-incident victim management. The Government reaffirmed its commitment to handling this incident quickly, properly, and comprehensively.
For the record, the train collision between the Argo Bromo Anggrek long-distance train and the Commuterline train happened at the East Bekasi station on Monday night (04/27). Previously, Minister of Transportation and President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) stated that by Tuesday (04/28) at 06:30 Western Indonesian Time, seven people were killed and 81 people were wounded and evacuated for medical care.
An intensive evacuation operation involving a joint rescue force has been underway since the collision, with efforts focused on rescuing trapped victims in the railcar. The rescue personnel are working tirelessly to ensure that all victims are safely evacuated.
Regarding the cause of the accident, the Government has handed over the investigation to the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) to ensure a thorough and objective investigation. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/LW)
