President Prabowo Subianto on Sunday (01/18) arrived in London, the United Kingdom, for a working visit. Upon arrival at a hotel where he would stay during his visit, the President was welcomed by a number of ministers arriving in London in advance, Indonesian Embassy officers in London, as well as Indonesian students and diaspora.

The President greeted them warmly and talked with one of the students. This warm gesture left a deep impression for students who are currently studying far from home. Alma, a student from Merauke, who is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Business Management at the University of Sussex, said she was deeply moved to meet President Prabowo in person for the first time.

“This was such a remarkable experience. This was also my first time meeting with the President. He seemed so humble and greeted us all. I felt like meeting with my own father in a country far from home. I was very happy and deeply moved,” Alma said.

She added that President Prabowo also asked the students about their fields of study which gave them a boost of encouragement. She expressed hope that the President’s presence would underscore the importance of education as the foundation of the nation’s future, particularly to achieve the 2045 Golden Indonesia vision.

Other students, Jovan, Dara, Adia, and Tessa, also shared their deep impressions of President Prabowo’s reception of the Indonesian diaspora in London.

“Honestly, we could say we were amazed, because he is very humble. Earlier, he greeted so many people, from the Indonesian Embassy team to the students. We felt elated to have a chance to welcome him, and he ended up greeting us back so warmly,” they said.

They also expressed hope that plans for educational cooperation between Indonesia and the United Kingdom would be further strengthened, especially with leading universities in the UK. In addition, the students hoped that President Prabowo’s future leadership would bring broad and equitable progress across various sectors.

“Not only in education sector but also in health sector, employment sector, and others. We also hope that everything goes smoothly and is successful,” they added.

Another student, Azka from Oxford University, also shared his impression when seeing President Prabowo in person. He hoped that the knowledge he gains in science and technology can one day be contributed to Indonesia’s progress. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat) (RAS/LW)
