This engagement represents an important milestone in advancing Indonesia–Canada bilateral relations, particularly in promoting cooperation across various strategic sectors.
Following the meeting, President Prabowo Subianto expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to engage despite the limited timeframe, and offered his apologies for being unable to attend Canada’s previous invitation to a conference of Global South countries.
“I sincerely apologize for being unable to attend the summit to which you invited me, representing the Global South, due to the demanding nature of my schedule. However, as I have promised, I look forward to meeting you at the earliest possible opportunity,” the President said.
The Head of State also highlighted Indonesia and Canada close ties, characterizing Canada as a responsible and mature Western nation with a deep sense of empathy for global development challenges.
“Canada has consistently supported poverty alleviation initiatives and has provided valuable assistance in the fields of health, agriculture, and fisheries. We also continue to benefit from our long standing cooperation in peacekeeping efforts,” the President explained.
President Prabowo Subianto also emphasized Indonesia and Canada’s long standing partnership in advancing global peace and expressed appreciation for Canada’s consistent leadership in maintaining international stability and order.
“Over the years, Canada has consistently demonstrated wise and stable leadership, and we deeply appreciate that,” he continued.
On that occasion, the President also conveyed his gratitude for the warm reception given by Canadian Governor General Mary Simon throughout his official visit.
“Prime Minister, thank you sincerely. I was also warmly received by your Governor General. I look forward to welcoming you in Indonesia,” the President concluded.
For the record, the tête-à-tête meeting reflected both leaders’ strong commitment to deepening Indonesia–Canada relations comprehensively, not only in the economic and security sectors, but also in advancing people’s welfare and safeguarding global peace and stability.
