President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday (11/5) met with Minister of Culture and Chairperson of the Council for Titles, Decorations, and Honors, Fadli Zon, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

The President and the Minister discussed matters related to the upcoming commemoration of this year’s National Heroes Day and conferment of national hero titles on several persons recognized for their significant contributions to the nation.

“As Chairperson of the Council for Titles, Decorations, and Honors, I reported to President Prabowo Subianto the process for conferment of the National Hero Titles, which is a regular agenda held during the commemoration of the National Heroes Day,” the Minister said.

The Minister stated that the process of selecting candidates for the national hero title is carried out through several stages, from the municipality or city level to the national level. The process also involves various academic experts and public figures from diverse backgrounds.

“After the proposal goes from the municipal or city level to the provincial level, it will be reviewed by a team of researchers, academics, and community leaders in the TP2GD (Regional Team for Review and Assessment of Titles). The proposal is then forwarded to the TP2GP (National Team for Review and Assessment of Titles) at the Ministry of Social Affairs. The Council for Titles, Decorations, and Honors has received the recommendation from the Ministry of Social Affairs,” he explained.

In his report to the President, Fadli Zon stated that there are 40 new names proposed as candidates for the title of national hero, along with 9 additional names carried over from the previous year. From the total number, the Minister said that 24 names have been prioritized by the Council after a process of selection, evaluation, and review.

“All of them meet the required criteria. None of the proposed names fail to meet the standards. Every nominee’s background and life history have been verified academically and scientifically. Their contributions have been carefully reviewed through multiple layers and stages,” he stated.

The Minister further said that the selection process also takes into account various aspects, including regional representation, gender, and the diversity of contributions to the nation’s independence and development.

“Our selection is based on various considerations, including gender, provinces of origin, and other factors,” the Minister remarked.
