President Prabowo Subianto Wednesday (05/21) called for the importance of regulation simplification in a bid to promote investment and to improve the national energy sector.

The statement was delivered in his remarks at the opening of the 49th Indonesian Petroleum Association Convention and Exhibition (IPA Convex) 2025, at the Nusantara Hall, ICE BSD, Tangerang.

“I call on regulatory bodies to simplify regulations. Let me repeat again, simplify regulations. I will replace officials who do not want to simplify regulations, I will remove them from their positions. Many young officials are waiting to be given the opportunity,” he said.

According to the President, the complexity of regulations can hinder investment in Indonesia. Therefore, the President urged all parties to change the outdated mindset that complicates the licensing process.

The Head of State also said that the Government has prepared Danantara Indonesia (Indonesia’s investment management agency) to support strategic investments in the energy sector, including those in both fossil and renewable energy. In this regard, he welcomed the initiative of Indonesia’s oil and gas industry that supports the energy transition through technologies such as carbon capture and storage, as well as various other innovations.

“Simplify all processes. Create the most favorable climate for all people to work, both domestic and foreign workers,” he stated, adding that Indonesia should be adaptive and proactive to a rapid global development.

He also expressed his optimism about Indonesia’s potential renewable energy sources including geothermal and wind powers, supported by advanced technology, which he believes will enable the country to achieve energy self-sufficiency and become a global energy provider.

On that occasion, the President called on all sides to collaborate and cooperate in building a strong, efficient, and independent energy sector. “I believe that through the collaboration, along with policies that support it, we will achieve the shared goals that we are striving for,” he concluded.
