“Should There be a Problem in Indonesia, it will affect ASEAN,” President Jokowi Says

President Joko”Jokowi” Widodo said that with the biggest population in ASEAN, in which 45% of ASEAN population live in Indonesia, and has 40-45% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), so should there is a problem in Indonesia, it will affect other ASEAN members.

“We have to be aware that our neighboring countries in Asia are our competitors, our rival in obtaining investment and capital.” said President Jokowi on his remarks on when receiving the participants of 2016 Regular Education Program (PPRA) Class  54 and 55 (Program Pendidikan RegulerAngkatan/PPRA) of National Resilience Institute of the Republic of Indonesia, at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/11) afternoon.

According to the President, in the future, global competition will emphasize three things, namely competition to get energy, competition to get food, and competition to get water. Indonesia actually posses these three things, though it is not very well maintained yet.

“Frankly speaking, we have those potentials. We have the power, but we are unable to manage those very well.” the President said.

Participants from Brunei

Previously, the Governor of National Resilience Institute of the Republic of Indonesia, Letjend TNI Purn. AgusWijoyo, in his report, said that there is a difference between the two classes.

“The Class 54 has already graduated, so they are called the alumni. On the other hand, the Class 55 is still waiting for the graduation, so they are called the participants.” Agus said.

He mentioned that the  PPRA for Class 55 was held from April 5^th – November 9^th 2016 which the participants reached 103 people, consisting of 51 people from TNI (Indonesian National Defence Forces) and Polri (Indonesian National Police) or 49.5%; 42 person or 40.18% from ministries/non-ministry government institutions, Supreme Court, Attorney General, Constitutional Court, Regional Governments, Private Higher Learning Institutions Coordinating Bodies (Kopertis), Mass Organizations, and Political parties; also 10 participants from neighboring countries, one person for each country, namely from Myanmar, the Phillippines, Jordan, Singapore, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam.

Attending the event were, among others, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung. (FID/JAY/ES)(SU/MMB/YM/Naster)
