President Jokowi Inspects Kertajati Airport Project

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Tuesday (17/4) inspected West Java International Airport (BIJB) project – also known as Kertajati Airport located in Majalengka city, West Java province.
The city is 68 kilometers away from Bandung, the capital of the province.
Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media Secretariat of President Bey Machmudin said the President left for the Husein Sastranegara Air Force Base, Bandung on the Presidential Aircraft Indonesia-1 from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in East Jakarta. “Upon arrival at Husein Sastranegara Air Force Base in Bandung at 2.05 pm, the President and his entourage then used Super Puma Air Force helicopter to fly to Majalengka to inspect the project,” Bey said in a press release.
Bey added after that in the evening the President is scheduled to attend the commemoration of the 58th Birthday of Indonesian Islamic Students Movement (PMII) at Sasana Budaya Ganesha building in Bandung. “After attending the PMII event, the President and entourage will return to Jakarta by Presidential Aircraft Indonesia-1,” Bey added.
The construction of Kertajati International Airport started in 2015 with the total investment more than Rp2.6 Trillion. The airport is expected to operate in the first half of 2018 and will have the total capacity up to 29 million passengers annually. State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II will operate the airport in cooperation with the regional government.
Covering an area of 1.800 hectares, the airport is also expected to boost economic growth in West Java the most populous province in the country – and ease air traffic at Soekarno Hatta International Airport that serves Greater Jakarta.
Accompanying the President during the visit were the Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, Coordinator of Special Staff to the President Teten Masduki, and Special Staff to the President Diaz Hendropriyono
