President Jokowi, Vietnamese PM Hold Bilateral Meeting
President Jokowi meets Vietnamese PM on the sidelines of 32nd ASEAN Summit at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, Saturday (28/4)
On the sidelines of the 32nd ASEAN Summit at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, Saturday (28/4), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo held a bilateral meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguy?n Xuân Phúc to discuss several issues related to relations between the two neighboring countries.
During the meeting, President Jokowi also appreciates a successful Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meeting between Foreign Ministers of the two countries on 17 April this year. One of the results of JCBC meeting that need to be immediately followed up, according to the President, is the completion of negotiation on maritime boundary (exclusive economic zone) between Indonesia and Viet Nam.
The completion of this maritime boundary, President Jokowi said, will prevent the occurrence of (maritime) incidents and increase cooperation in fisheries and maritime affairs. The President also expressed his optimism that the negotiation will be immediately completed and that the 2019-2023 Action Plan to implement strategic partnership between two countries can be completed by November this year.
On that occasion, President Jokowi said he is grateful for the realization of motor vehicles export from Indonesia to Vietnam in the near future and hopes that US$ 10 billion trade volume between two countries can be achieved by 2020. “I also appreciate Vietnam’s support for the concept of Indo-Pacific cooperation that I delivered at the Summit,” he said.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Jokowi invited his Vietnamese counterpart to attend the ASEAN Leaders Gathering in Bali on 11 October this year. The President also said he appreciates the invitation of the Vietnamese Prime Minister to attend the World Economic Forum on ASEAN on 11-13 September 2018 in Viet Nam.
Also present at the bilateral meeting were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, and Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore I Gede Ngurah Swajaya.
