Fatmawati Soekarno is Heroine for Nation, State, President Jokowi Says
Ibu Fatmawati Soekarno is an Indonesian national heroine figure who gave a great contribution and meritorious service to the nation and state during her life, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.
“Ibu Fatmawati is a mother to Bengkulu residents and to all Indonesian people. She will forever be remembered for her vision and foresight for the nation,” President Jokowi said during the inauguration of the Fatmawati Soekarno Monument in Bengkulu Province, Wednesday (5/2).
For her meritorious service, President Jokowi continued, our nation has the Sacred Red and White Heirloom Flag (Bendera Pusaka Sang Saka Merah Putih), which was sewn by her and raised for the first time when President Soekarno proclaimed Indonesia’s independence.
“As the First Lady of the Republic of Indonesia, Ibu Fatmawati was faithful in supporting President Soekarno’s struggle for the country. She reminded us of the importance of sacrifice, enthusiasm, and dreams in the midst of limitations,” the President said.
According to the President, the monument is a tribute to the struggle of Ibu Fatmawati.
“This monument reminds us all as the children of the nation and the next generation to emulate the statesmanship of Ibu Fatmawati. It also motivates the rise of heroism in the Indonesian society and encourages us to sacrifice for the progress and prosperity of the nation,” President Jokowi added.
On that occasion, President Jokowi also said that the aesthetic monument of Ibu Fatmawati was the artwork of Indonesian sculptor Nyoman Nuarta, adding that Nyoman is a Balinese artist who presents his work for Bengkulu residents and the people of Indonesia.
At the end of his remarks, the President trusted Bengkulu residents to properly guard and take care of the monument so that it will not be damaged and timeless.
“It is like the spirit of Ibu Fatmawati that never fades all the time,” he said.
“By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, I inaugurate the National Heroine Monument of Ibu Fatmawati Sukarno,” the President said at the end of his remarks. (UN / EN)
