President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Tuesday (06/04) invited several ambassadors of friendly countries and international organization leaders to visit Mentawir Nursery in North Penajam Paser regency, East Kalimantan province, following the nursery’s inauguration.

On that occasion, the President elaborated various kinds of seedlings at the nursery to his guests.

The ambassadors expressed their impression and admiration of Indonesia’s effort for reforestation by taking an approach based on tree diversity.

“It is extraordinary to see the landscape and nursery to ensure that the Nusantara Capital and its surrounding area become a part of a green and sustainable future for Indonesia,” said Kevin Tokar, the Head of Development Cooperation of the Embassy of Canada in Indonesia.

Echoing a similar sentiment, Carolyn Turk, the World Bank’s Country Director for Indonesia and Timor-Leste, said that she had an interesting experience visiting the nursery, adding that the nursery is an incredible initiative from the Indonesian Government.

“It is an incredible initiative, and I am glad that it is focused on introducing diversity and all kinds of trees for reforestation. Not only does it use eucalyptus trees but also different kinds of trees,” she said.

Kristian Netland, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Norway in Jakarta, also expressed appreciation, stating that the nursery is very well-organized and uses advanced technology.

The nursery serves as a concrete example of how international cooperation and support can strengthen environmental preservation efforts and promote sustainable development in Indonesia. Positive feedbacks from the ambassadors are expected to encourage reforestation efforts in the country. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/MUR)
