Gov’t Hands Over Subsidized Housing to Teachers

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and Minister of Housing Maruarar Sirait, inspected one of the subsidized housing units for teachers at Pesona Kahuripan 10 Residential Complex in Cileungsi, West Java, on Tuesday (03/25).

Minister of Housing Maruarar Sirait, along with Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Tuesday (03/25) attended a ceremonial handover of subsidized housing program for teachers at Pesona Kahuripan 10 Residential Complex in Cileungsi, West Java province.

The subsidized housing for teachers is located in eight regions in Indonesia, including Banda Aceh, Medan, Bogor, Bangkalan, Pontianak, Makassar, Kupang, and Jayapura.

Minister of Housing stated that the subsidized housing initiative reflects the Government’s support for teachers, in line with the directive of President Prabowo Subianto.

“I met with the President about 10 days ago and reported several planned programs, including the large-scale implementation of subsidized housing for teachers because many of them belong to low-income group” he said, adding that the Ministry will continue to work with other Ministries, Agencies, and stakeholders to achieve the national housing agenda through the “Three Million House Program.”

In the meantime, Minister Abdul Mu’ti expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involving in delivering house for teachers across the country.

“We hope that access to decent housing will enhance the welfare and dedication of teachers in Indonesia,” he said.

Ade Purwanto (45), a Bahasa Indonesia teacher at Senior High School 8 Bekasi and a resident at the subsidized housing, expressed his gratitude for the housing assistance.

“It is strategically located. The building is good, and the facilities are complete — we feel comfortable living here. The program from the President has really helped us, and we no longer need to rent house,” he said.

For the record, the Government plans to allocate subsidized housing for 20,000 teachers across the nation, based on data provided by Statistics Indonesia and Ministry of Education. At Pesona Kahuripan 10 alone, 1,504 out of 1,855 total units (type 30/60) have been allocated for teachers, with facilities including places of worship and playgrounds.  (PR OF MINISTRY OF HOUSING/HIM) (RI/EP)
