President Jokowi Inaugurates Tangguh Train 3 Project in Teluk Bintuni Regency
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (11/24) inaugurated Tangguh Train 3 National Strategic Project (PSN) in Teluk Bintuni regency, West Papua province. The President stated that this facility could increase Tangguh’s annual LNG production up to 11.4 million tonnes.
“It also significantly contributes to support daily target gas production of 12 billion cubic feet by 2030,” he added.
For the record, Tangguh Train project has an investment value of US$4.83 billion or equivalent to Rp72.45 trillion. This project is expected to create employment opportunities for domestic workers, especially Papuan workers.
“As of today, 70 percent of Tangguh’s operational workforce are employees from the West Papua and Papua provinces,” the President said.
On that occasion, the Head of State also showed support for the target set by Tangguh LNG that by 2029, 85 percent of its operational workforce are Papuans.
“105 operations and maintenance technicians of the LNG plant are sons and daughters of West Papua and Indonesia who have been recruited since high school and passed education programs by UK-based oil producer BP in Berau,” he continued.
Furthermore, according to President Jokowi, several upstream oil and gas projects and their derivatives are also going to be built in West Papua province, such as the Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) Ubadari, the blue ammonia downstreaming project, as well as the Asap, Kido, and Merah (AKM) Field projects.
