President Jokowi Witnesses Motorbike Handover for Military Command in Maluku
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, accompanied by First Lady Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo, on Wednesday (09/14) witnessed the handover of 40 motorbikes from Ministry of Defense to Military District Command (Kodim) 1503/Tual, Southeast Maluku regency, Maluku province.
Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto said that the handover of the motorbikes was part of President Jokowi’s directives for a long-term defense plan.
“The development of territorial power is one of the most important things for us, so we will empower all non-commissioned officers in villages (Babinsa), Military Sub-district Command (Koramil), Military District Command (Kodim), Military Sub-Regional Command (Korem) and Military Regional Command (Kodam). It is our grand design and is part of the national defense, namely hankamrata (total people’s defense and security system),” Prabowo said.
The Minister also said that other motorbikes would also be handed over to the Babinsa across Indonesia. According to him, the motorbikes are domestic products manufactured by the national companies.
“It is just the beginning. We will provide motorbikes for all Babinsa and we have plan to produce the motorbikes in Indonesia, manufactured by state-owned weapon manufacturer PT Pindad and state-owned electronics manufacturer PT Len under the defense industry holding, namely the Defend ID,” Prabowo said.
The Minister also underscored the commitment of national defense stakeholders to implementing President Jokowi’s mandate in maintaining Indonesia’s wealth and diversity. (The BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RI/MUR)
