President Prabowo Subianto Tuesday (09/23) attended the Multilateral Meeting on the Middle East at the invitation of United States President Donald Trump at the United Nations Security Council Consultation Room in New York. The meeting was attended on a limited basis by countries considered capable of contributing to the Middle East peace process.
Alongside President Prabowo of Indonesia and President Trump of the United States, the meeting was also attended by Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, King Abdullah II of Jordan, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly of Egypt, United Arab Emirates Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as well as Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. President Trump viewed these countries as having significant influence and the capacity to make tangible contributions to advancing peace in the region.
In his opening remarks, President Trump underscored the importance of the forum for advancing peace efforts in the Middle East. He reaffirmed his determination to bring an end to the ongoing conflict and to secure the release of hostages.
“This will be a very important meeting. It will bring together major leaders from a highly significant part of the world, namely the Middle East. And we want to end the war in Gaza. We will end it,” President Trump stated as he opened the meeting.
President Trump also expressed his confidence in the leaders present at the meeting. Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, extended his gratitude to President Trump for taking the initiative to convene the forum.
“The only reason we are here is to stop the war and bring the hostages home. And we are relying on you and your leadership to end this war and to help the people of Gaza. The situation there is truly, truly dire,” the Emir of Qatar stated.
Concluding his opening remarks, President Trump reiterated that the meeting was the most important among all his engagements at the United Nations.
“This is a very important meeting for me because we are going to end something that perhaps should never have happened. Thank you very much, everyone. We truly appreciate it,” he concluded.
The meeting marked a significant diplomatic step, expected to pave the way for concrete agreements on ending the conflict, securing the release of hostages, and restoring peaceful life in Gaza and the wider Middle East.
The discussion also addressed a peace plan for Gaza, including support for reconstruction once peace is achieved. On this occasion, President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s readiness to contribute to all peace efforts, particularly by deploying peacekeeping forces to help stabilize the situation in Gaza and enable the reconstruction process.
