President Prabowo Subianto Thursday (09/04) chaired a limited cabinet meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, to discuss the development of the national economy and the Government’s measures to maintain stability and strengthen public protection programs.
According to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Indonesia’s macroeconomic conditions remain stable, with the rupiah exchange rate hovering around Rp16,400 per US dollar and the stock market showing signs of recovery after a slight correction.
“Furthermore, at the micro level, the stock market saw a relatively slight decline during the post-incident period before rebounding,” Airlangga said.
Airlangga went on to say that President Prabowo underscored the importance of strengthened economic stimulus in the second half of this year.
Several ongoing programs will continue to be expanded, including wage subsidies for workers earning under Rp10 million, labor-intensive initiatives, income tax exemptions for certain sectors, which have already benefited 1.7 million workers, and housing support.
“There are also housing-related programs through micro-enterprise credit, which we will continue to promote. The home renovation program will also be expanded,” he added.
The Government is also preparing measures to prevent mass layoffs, with deregulation in key industrial sectors, especially in Java, expected to create over 100,000 jobs, while ensuring continued protections for contract workers.
“We already have contract workers who are provided with special employment facilities for a one-year period,” Airlangga said.
On the issue of inflation, the Coordinating Minister stated that the situation is relatively well-managed.
“Inflation remains under control. In fact, this month recorded deflation compared to the previous month, bringing inflation growth to 2.31 percent,” Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RIF/MUR)
