President Prabowo Subianto, Wednesday (07/30), summoned the Minister of Public Works (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, to the Merdeka Palace to discuss strategic initiatives in the national housing sector, including the plan to launch a large-scale subsidized housing program and a new housing microcredit scheme.

“First, I reported that we are hosting a major event this September, the launch of our subsidized housing program. It is planned to be implemented on a massive scale in September,” said Maruarar.

The nationwide housing program will be launched simultaneously in various cities with the initial target of a minimum of 25,000 units, marking a significant increase from the previous annual quota of 200,000 units to 350,000 units this year.

“For the first time, the public housing quota has increased substantially. It was typically around 200,000 units per year, but this year, weaim to provide 350,000 units,” he added.

Maruarar emphasized that the success of this expansion relies heavily on multi-stakeholder support. The housing program is primarily aimed at farmers, fishermen, laborers, teachers, drivers, and even media workers.

“And at the initial phase, we allocate 20,000 units for farmers, 20,000 for fishermen, 20,000 for laborers, 20,000 for teachers, 8,000 for drivers, 3,000 for media workers, and the rest for various community members,” he noted.

In addition to the subsidized housing program, the government is preparing to roll out a Housing Microcredit Scheme (KUR), a financing innovation that enables microcredit to be used for homeownership for the first time in Indonesia, aimed at supporting developers and contractors and boosting the tourism sector by, among others, building more homestays.

“This microcredit scheme will be the first in our country. Thanks to support from Danantara, several state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and coordination from Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, the program will help boost the supply side of housing development,” Maruarar explained.  (Bureau of Press, Media, and Information (BPMI) of Presidential Secretariat) (HYP/TM)
