Jokowi Challenges Universities to Produce Energy-Efficient Car

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo accompanied by Minister of Research and Technology and Higher Education M. Nasir received Indonesian Student Team of 2015 Asian Shell Eco Marathon (SEM) who competed in the 2015 Asian SEM event on 26 Pebruary – 1 March 2015, in Manila, the Philippines.

Managing Director of PT. Shell Indonesia Darwin Silalahi who accompanied the students reported that the event involved 120 University student’s team from 17 countries in Asia and the Middle East. The participated team brought a vehicle in one of the Urban Concept or Prototype category choosing one of seven different fuel.

President Jokowi : Renovate Infeasible Zoos dan Save Endangered Species

President Joko Widodo accompanied by Minister of State Secretary and Minister of Environment Affairs and Forestry in a meeting with the Manager of Indonesian Zoo Association (PKBSI), on Wednesday (30/9) afternoon, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo asked Manager of the Indonesian Zoo Association (PKBSI) to name zoos which are not feasible as research, education, rescue places for endangered animals, as well as those that are not suitable as educated and low cost entertainment area to be renovated or rebuilt.

“The President promised to give assistance on the renovation, until those zoos become proper in accordance to wildlife conservation ethic,”  General Chief of PKBSI Rahmat Sah said, after he and several managers of PKBSI were received by President Joko Widodo on Wednesday (30/9) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

The President also hopes the area of zoos would not shrink but would get wider and if possible, the areas could serve as cities green open spaces (RTH).

The Government hinted will announce, a possible reduction in the price of fuel oil (BBM) Premiun types, on Monday (5/10) next. This cue is delivered directly by the President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on the sidelines of the launch of Operation Rice Market, at the Bulog Warehouse, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, Friday (2/10) morning.

“There is a possibility lowered. Will reported to me later, on Monday (5/10). Can or cannot be lowered will be announced,” President Jokowi said.

Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/ the Head of National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Sofyan Djalil ensured that Japanese State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) and private enterprise will not participate in the fast-train mega project connecting Jakarta and Bandung. However, the Government of Japan dan Indonesia are still intensively cooperating in other infrastructure projects.

“Japanese private sector will not involve in the framework of business to business cooperation on fast-train project because it is not in accordance with business model and regulation of Japanese Government,” said Sofyan who just landed in Jakarta on Wednesday (30/9), after assigned by President Joko Widodo to meet Japanese Government officials to deliver the Government’s decision on the plan to build fast-train connecting Jakarta and Bandung.

Eventhough deregulation and debureaucratization packages through First Phase Policy Package on 9 September and Second Phase Policy Package on 29 September have been launched, President Joko‘Jokowi’ Widodo ensured that his administration would continue the breakthrough to solve the investment issues.

“The breakthrough to solve the investment issues will continue,” President Widodo said on his facebook fanpage on Tuesday (29/9).

The President also said many times that actually many investors wanted to invest in Indonesia but the investment regulation in Indonesia made them leave the country.

Minister of Finance BambangBrodjonegoro talked with Cabinet Secretary PramonoAnung before announcing Policy Package II September 2015, on Tuesday (29/9) afternoon, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta.

Minister of Finance Bambang Brodjonegoro delivered four points related to the Second Economic Policy Package September 2015 on Finance sector. First, regarding the approval on tax allowance and tax holiday. Government Regulation and Finance Ministry Regulation (PMK) regulating tax allowance and tax holiday have been issued.

“After all requirements are completed, the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and Directorate General of Taxation of the Ministry of Finance will finish the process for a period not exceeding 25 days. Twenty five days after requirements are completed and the application is submitted, the decision whether the investment could receive tax allowance or not is available,” the Minister said to reporters on Tuesday (29/9) at the Presidential Office, Jakarta.

The Economic Policy Package III Will be Announced Next Week

Cabinet Secretary Pramono Agung conveyed the government’s plan to announce the Package of Economic Policy Phase III, at the President’s office, Jakarta, Thursday (1/10).

After announcing the Economic Policy Package Phase I on September 9, followed by the Policy Package for Phase II on September 29, 2015, the Government in the near future will again launch a Policy Package Early October, which will be delivered next week.

Cabinet Secretary Pramono Agung argued, the package on what, at present being prepared under the coordination of Coordinating Minister for Economy. However, further Cabinet Secretary, in principle Policy Package Phase III to be issued approximately substance and narrative, hopefully the steadiness is the same as the Policy Package II.

Government, on Tuesday (29/9), announced the Second Phase Policy Package. It is expected that the package will be more effective and easy to implement.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution said that this package is not as many as the First Phase Policy Package announced by President Joko Widodo in which it included an amendment of 120 Ministerial Regulations and some Government Regulations.

“So, this policy will be more effective and efficient based on the instruction and the directives of the President as what Pramono Anung has delivered,” the Minister said after being invited by Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung to deliver the meeting result on investment at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, on Tuesday (29/9) afternoon.

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has assigned Minister of National Development Planning/ Head of National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) Sofyan Djalil to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to talk about the Government’splan ofthe construction of Jakarta-Bandung high speed train.

The President also sent a special envoy to meet with the Government of the People’s Republic of China to discuss the same issue.

 “Yesterday, the President sent a special envoy Pak Sofyan Djalil to meet with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and a special envoy to meet withrepresentatives of the Government of China,” Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung Wibowo told reporters at the Presidential office, Jakarta, on Monday (28/9).

Government Exempts VAT of Planes, Ships, Crossing Vessels and Trains Import

In order to implement the provision of Article 18B paragraph (1) of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 8 of 1983, that ammended with Law Number 42 of 2009, President Joko Widodo signed a Government Regulation Number 69 of 2015 on Exemption of Value Added Tax (VAT) on Import and Delivery of Specific Means of Transportation and Taxable Services Related to Certain Means of Transportation on 16 September 2015.

Article 1 on the Government Regulation says; certain means of transportation which import is exempted of VAT, are:

a. water, under water, air  transports, and trains, as well as its spare parts which are imported by Ministry of Defence, Indonesian National Defence Forces, Indonesian National Police, and other parties which appointed by Ministry of Defence, Indonesian National Defence Forces and Indonesian National Police to conduct the import.
