President Jokowi Assigns Sofyan Djalil to Meet With Japanese PM to Discuss High Speed Train

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has assigned Minister of National Development Planning/ Head of National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) Sofyan Djalil to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to talk about the Government’splan ofthe construction of Jakarta-Bandung high speed train.

The President also sent a special envoy to meet with the Government of the People’s Republic of China to discuss the same issue.

 “Yesterday, the President sent a special envoy Pak Sofyan Djalil to meet with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and a special envoy to meet withrepresentatives of the Government of China,” Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung Wibowo told reporters at the Presidential office, Jakarta, on Monday (28/9).

Government Exempts VAT of Planes, Ships, Crossing Vessels and Trains Import

In order to implement the provision of Article 18B paragraph (1) of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 8 of 1983, that ammended with Law Number 42 of 2009, President Joko Widodo signed a Government Regulation Number 69 of 2015 on Exemption of Value Added Tax (VAT) on Import and Delivery of Specific Means of Transportation and Taxable Services Related to Certain Means of Transportation on 16 September 2015.

Article 1 on the Government Regulation says; certain means of transportation which import is exempted of VAT, are:

a. water, under water, air  transports, and trains, as well as its spare parts which are imported by Ministry of Defence, Indonesian National Defence Forces, Indonesian National Police, and other parties which appointed by Ministry of Defence, Indonesian National Defence Forces and Indonesian National Police to conduct the import.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked Pertamina to recalculate the price of fuel oil (BBM), which on Wednesday (30/9), has been announced by the Director General of Oil and Gas, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, I Nyoman Wiratmaja, unchanged until January 2016.

“Try counted again. Although, it was announced yesterday by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, but this country needed. Please be counted again, is it still possible premium was lowered, although a little bit,” said President Jokowi when giving an introduction to the limited cabinet meeting regarding the licensing pruning, in the President’s office, Jakarta, Thursday (1/10) afternoon.

Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo said the implementation of the Economic Policy Package issued by the Central Government would be optimal if the regional governments in both provinces and regencies could accelerate the development of the effective and efficient governance.  

Therefore, through Minister for the Empowerment of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform, he added, the Government keep trying to cut many bureaucratic procedures. He said that his Ministry has returned 139 problematic regional regulations which can hamper the investment process, etc.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution admitted there is 0.05 % deflation in September 2015 as announced by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) on Thursday (1/10).

However, Darmin asked all not to hasty indicated that the deflation is caused by the improvement in economy. “Actually, it must be measured the reason behind the deflation, in one side it sounds good, but in other side the deflation indicates the demand in economy slows down,” Darmin said on Thursday (1/10), at the Presidential Office, Jakarta.

Head of Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Franky Sibarani explained, permits investment completed within 3 (three) hours as stated by Coordinating Minister for Economics Darmin Nasution, produces three products, namely the principle permits itself, the deed of company, and the Taxpayer Identification Number (of NPWP ). To process the permits within 3 hours, the agency also prepares in-house notary.

But Franky remind that there are prerequisite for the permits investment in 3 hours, namely carried out in an industrial area, investors can directly conduct the selection of sites in the industrial area, and then immediately began to build or start doing construction operations. The investment that set is at least Rp 100 billion, or employ of 1000 Indonesian workers.

President Joko Widodo asked businessmen and rice mill enterpreneurs to support the program of the Government to achieve food self-sufficiency. He told that invitation in his remark when hosting a lunch for the rice mill enterpreneurs, rice businessmen, and rice merchants in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) at the State Palace, Jakarta on Monday (28/9).

The invitation is aimed at anticipating an abundant rice production in the future. Moreover, the rice harvest attended by the President last time in Karawang could produce 13.4 tons per hectare.

President Widodo instructed Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman to distribute rice seeds all over Indonesia including new farms.

President Jokowi Upbeat National Rice Needs Will Be Fulfilled

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo on Sunday (27/9) visited a rice field in Karawang, West Java, to see the harvest of a new variety of rice, 3S.

On that occasion, the President expressed his optimism that rice needs in the country would be fulfilled particularly after the rice variety, found by the Bogor Institute of Agricultural (IPB) is able to produce 13.4 tons of rice per hectare.

“The improvement is very significant. We need this kind of intensification to make rice production increase significantly,” President Jokowi said, adding that the variety had been tested in 500 hectares area and would be planted in 100 thousand hectares area.
