A Year, Indonesian Population Growth Equals to Singapore Population

Head of the Population and Family Planning (BKKBN) Dr Surya Chandra Surapaty, MPH, Ph.D., Said that Indonesia’s population growth rate currently at 1.49 percent, is too high. Therefore, the government through the BKKBN conveyed that Indonesia’s population growth rate can be reduced to 1.1 percent.

“With a growth rate of 1.49 per cent of the Indonesian population will increase by 4.5 million people. It’s the same with a population of Singapore,” said Surya Chandra told reporters after received by the President of Joko Widodo (Jokowi), in the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (29/9) afternoon.

According to Surya, the concern is that Indonesia’s population becomes not qualified, because most of them inhabit in slum areas, in poor areas.

Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung admitted that the Singaporean government had offered assistance to extinguish forest and peatland fires, which brought about haze crisis in Singapore, to the Indonesian Government.

However, he said that the Government decided to try to extinguish the fire our with its own ways.

“I admitted, there are attempts (to offer assistance). However, based on the reports from the National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) and the Minister of the Environment and Forestry, until now, we are still trying to do what we can do,” Pramono said to reporters after a limited meeting in Jakarta, on Monday (28/9) afternoon.

Village Fund Cannot Saved in Bank, Jokowi Reminds

President Joko Widodo accompanied by Minister of Villages, Underdeveloped Regions and Transmigration Marwan Jafar talked with the villagers in Karawang, West Java, on Sunday (27/9).

The President expressed his hope for an improvement of the economy of villages in Indonesia. According to him, the Government has allocated fund by Rp 20.7 trillion for 74,754 villages all over Indonesia.

“I want the economy of villages to be improved. In 2015, the village fund is allocated at Rp 20.7 trillion. Please, use the fund soon,” the President said in his twitter account @jokowi posted by him a few hours ago.

Meanwhile, in his facebook fan page, President Widodo stated that the fund is really important to drive the economy of villages, provide job opportunities in the village, and accelerate the development of rural areas.

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo said that hot spots in peatlands are like seasonal calamity and each year the problem reappears due to the bad management in landpeat.

Therefore, the President called for an emergency action to handle peatland fires.

“I order the Environment and Forestry Ministry and Regional Government to oblige enterprises to build traditional reservoir for catching rainwater (embung) which could beneficial to rewetting the peatland,” President Joko Widodo said via his facebook fanpage and personal account on twitter @jokowi on Saturday evening (26/9).

The Religious Affairs Ministry’s Haj Management Committee (PPIH) in Saudi Arabia has identified 15 bodies of Indonesian Haj Pilgrims who became the victims during the incident in Mina. Thus, adding to the previous number of Indonesian haj pilgrims who were found dead in the incident in Mina, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday (24/9), the number increased to 34 victims.

The Head of the Religious Affairs Ministry’s regional haj Arsyad Hidayat in the press conference, on Sunday (27/9) afternoon said that fifteen bodies have been identified were from several flight groups: three bodies from BTH 14, nine bodies from JKS 61, two bodies from SUB 48, and one body from UPG 10.

After performing Eid Al-Adha prayer at Al Karomah Mosque, Martapura, South Kalimantan on Thursday (24/9), President Joko Widodo directly visited the hotspot location in Henda Village, Jabiren Raya sub-District, Pulang Pisau Regency, Central Kalimantan on Thursday (24/9) afternoon.

Initially, President Widodo inspected the inside of the forest only with Pulang Pisau Regent for about 15 minutes. Afterwards, he returned to the edge of the forest to invite Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Panjaitan, Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya, Head of National Agency for Management Disaster (BNPB) Willem Rampangilei, Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) Commander Gatot Nurmantyo, and National Police Chief Badrodin Haiti.
