“The first one is about Indonesia as the largest Muslim country in the world but at the same time Indonesia became the largest democracies in the world that’s tolerant, pluralistic, and so on, which are not owned by other countries,” the Foreign Minister said.

President Joko Widodo expressed his confidence that the decision of the Government to focus on infrastructure and food, as well as to control the price of fuel oil is right on track.

 “The beginning is hard, but in the long term I believe that this is the right way,” President Joko Widodo said when meeting Indonesian diaspora and citizens in the US, at Wisma Tilden, Ambassador of Indonesia’s House, on Sunday (25/10) afternoon, local time.

At the beginning of the meeting, the President said that like other countries, Indonesia is currently facing economic slow down, unstable exchange rate, etc. Moreover, we must also overcome the problems of forest and land fire as well as haze disaster.

President Jokowi Encourages BUMN to Set Up Holding and Joint Venture


President Joko Widodo gave instruction in a meeting with the Managing Directors of all State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), at the Negara Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (21/10) evening.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo asserted that he wants the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) to become big. Therefore, the President encouraged BUMN to be strengthened by setting up holding company and join venture, as well as by developing holding and subholding.

“I think it is the issue in the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises. However, I really want the BUMN to get bigger, by asset evaluation or others. I guess this is the authority of the related ministers. I just want the BUMNs to be big and strong enterprises,” President Joko Widodo said in a meeting with the Managing Directors of BUMNs, on Wednesday (21/10) afternoon.

President Joko Widodo delivered a remarks on the Declaration of National Santri Day, at Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta on Thursday (22/10)

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo officially declared October 22 as a National Santri (Islamic students) Day. The declaration, which took place at Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, on Thursday (22/10) afternoon, was attended by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Chairman KH. Ma’ruf Amin, Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Said Aqil Siroj, Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung and thousands of santri from Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi.

In his remarks, President Jokowi said that the history had showed that santri had sacrificed their lives to guard the independence of Indonesia and to materialize the goals of the indepedence.

“His first focus on this state visit is, how to boost the economic cooperation between the two countries. It is really important and not only for the sake of US only, but also for the benefit of Indonesia. Second, the President will discuss the issues of environment and security,” Presidential communication team member Ari Dwipayana said at the Presidential Palace area, Jakarta, several days ago.

President Jokowi Instructs Immediate Evacuation of Haze Victims

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has instructed related ministries and institutions to immediately evacuate the victims of haze in a number of regions in the country because the condition is already very unhealthy now.

According to the President, at least 826 hot spots were detected in the island of Sumatera, in which 703 hot spots were detected in South Sumatera. Meanwhile, he added that 974 hot spots were detected in Kalimantan.

“We must be focused on extinguishing the fires and tackling the impacts of the haze in a massive scale. I hope all ministries could concentrate and step in on the ground, to especially rescue children and babies,” the President said before the limited cabinet meeting on efforts to tackle the haze crisis at the Presidential Office, Jakarta on Friday (23/10).
